47747
- 47615 47252 D1929
A year after 47615 was
renumbered from 47252, 47615 was named "CAERPHILLY CASTLE/
CASTELL CAERFFILI" at Caerphilly Station on 30/04/85. In
April 1992 both nameplates were removed at Crewe Diesel Depot
before it entered overhaul.
47747 was heavily overhauled
and modified to work on Royal Mail Duties around the country.
47747 was released in June 1994 and named "RES REPUBLICA"
at Crewe Works.
Ownership was handed over to
EWS and in August 1999 the locomotive caught fire whilst hauling
the Euston - Inverness Caledonian Sleeper. The locomotive
suffered lightly and was stored at Motherwell before movement to
Warrington. On 19/11/99 the locomotive was moved to Springs
Branch for attention. The locomotive undertook a generator
replacement and was released back into traffic on 31/12/99.
47747 moved to Crewe Diesel Depot and returned into service. She
undertook a full repaint into Virgin's house colours and was
named "GRAHAM FARISH" at Poole Station on 23/08/00.
47747 was then stored after the new Virgin Voyager fleet was
gradually being introduced. EWS removed the nameplates in
September 2002 and repainted the locomotive into EWS livery. New
nameplates of "FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE" were fitted to the
locomotive at Toton after repaint.
Soon after EWS decided their
Class 47 fleet was not needed anymore they decided to store the
entire fleet around the country, including 47747. She was stored
at Millerhill, Scotland, and has been there ever since. The
locomotive is still complete and very minimal vandalism has
occurred during its time in storage. During storage at
Millerhill the nameplates of "FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE" were
removed, meaning 47747 currently has no name.
Riviera purchased 47747 in
June 2007.
47747 will be moved
from Millerhill on 27/02/08 to Crewe. A full examination
will be carried out to make the decision whether she will return
to mainline use, be stored or stripped for spares. |
