47155 it was loaned to West Thurrock Power Station in January 1976 for use of a static generator whilst the main line exciter at the station was under repair.

She was later renumbered to 47660 on 18th December 1986 and again later renumbered on 31st August 1989 to 47815. After privatisation she was taken over by Porterbrook Leasing Company in 1994 and was leased to First Great Western in 1997. She received Great Western dark green and later First Great Western dark green with gold lining and was named 'ABERTAWE/SWANSEA' at Swansea Station on 1st July 2000.

In 2004 she was still in use with First Great Western and was overhauled and painted into Heritage BR Two Tone Green retaining her name 'ABERTAWE LANDORE'. The nameplates were finally removed on 31st December 2004 and was handed over to Riviera Trains on 1st January 2005.

On 14th September 2005 she was named 'GREAT WESTERN' at Crewe Works Open Day and is now based at L&NWR Crewe.

In August 2006 she was the first locomotive required for use with Direct Rail Services to be used on flask trains.

However she was held back because of such great reliability and for use on other requirements.

Note: Both numbers 47815 and D1748 are carried on the locomotive.
