47621 was named 'ROYAL COUNTY OF BERKSHIRE' at Reading Station on 4th June 1985. The nameplates were removed in December 1989.

On 20th October 1995 she caught fire on arrival at Birmingham New Street Station on a Wolverhampton - Plymouth service, causing major fire damage to the stations overhead ducting. The loco was later repaired and returned to service.

Virgin Cross Country took over the loco in 1997 and later named her 'PRIDE OF SALTLEY' at a private ceremony at Saltley Depot in March 1998.

The nameplates were removed in October 2002 when she was sold to Riviera Trains along with sister engine 47853.

In December 2002 she was painted into Riviera Oxford Blue livery at EWS Toton paint shop prior to movement to L&NWR Crewe.

On Friday 29th September 2006, 47839 was named at L&NWR Crewe, 'PEGASUS' at a private ceremony along with 47805 and 47843.
