47577 was named 'BENJAMIN GIMBERT G.C' at March Station on 28th September 1981. This was a double naming ceremony with 47579 with a commemorative plate placed below the nameplate which read 'One of two locomotives named after Driver B. Gimbert and Fireman J. Nightall of March who were awarded the George Cross for their action in saving the town of Soham from severe damage by a burning ammunition train on 2nd June 1944. James Nightall was killed and Benjamin Gimbert received serious injuries'. The nameplates were removed in May 1987.

 

In 1997 Virgin Cross Country leased her and had her painted it in Virgin livery.

 

In September 2002 she was repainted into a heritage livery, which was chosen by 'The Railway World Magazine'. At London Euston Station on 10th January 2002 she was named in a dual naming of which one side of her was named 'Brian Morrison' and on the other side, 'The Railway World Magazine'. When she was handed back to Porterbrook in May 2003, Freightliner took leased until December 2005.

 

On 1st January 2005she  was purchased by Riviera Trains and retained her BR Large Logo Blue livery, but in September 2006 her nameplates were removed.
