Sunday 21st March 2010 From December 2009 Riviera Trains was awarded a contract to supply Mk2 rolling stock to First Great Western in conjunction with First GBRF. The set has been required due to shortage of DMU’s. The service is operated Monday – Friday by First GBRF using Virgin Trains Class 57/3’s in a top and tailed fashion using a set of 4 Mk2 Standard Open coaches. Set 1: 9520, 5929, 5998, 5964 Set 2: 9527, 5985, 6006, 6042 Only one set is in use but is swapped each week to ensure full maintenance is carried out to high standards at ATW Cardiff Canton. The Class 57’s are also maintained at Cardiff Canton but are based at Alstom’s Longsight Depot in Manchester. The diagram is as follows: 2D04 07.28 Taunton - Bristol Parkway, 2Y10 09.13 Bristol Parkway - Weston-super-Mare, 2U14 11.02 Taunton – Cardiff Central, 2C79 14.00 Cardiff Central – Taunton, 2U24 16.13 Taunton - Cardiff Central, 2C89 19.00 Cardiff Central – Taunton Once the new Class 172’s are built then it is likely that London Midland Class 150’s will replace this loco hauled service.
